Newly elected Queens Borough President Melinda Katz applauded Artistic Director of the Cambria Heights Impressions Dance Theatre Ms. Verna Walcott-White, for motivating and enriching the lives of children by promoting skills that enhance multicultural and creative dance.

“Ms. Verna is versatile, creative and truly self-proficient in her field of dance,” said Katz, as she proclaimed June 29, 2014 Verna Walcott White Day in Queens.

Katz, an accomplished lawyer and former City Councilwoman who won 80 percent of the votes to replace Guyanese-Born Helen Marshall, presented the school with a Proclamation that said, “Ms. Verna’s objective is to provide services to the community, that will enable children to enjoy a positive learning experience, and build their self-esteem through the discipline of dance.

“Now therefore I Melinda Katz, president of the Borough of Queens in the City of New York, do hereby proclaim Sunday, June 29th 2014 as Ms. Verna Walcott-White Day.”

The borough president, who was entertained with stirring choreography in a variety of genres at the school’s 12th Annual Dance Recital on June 29, also brought citations for Claire Patterson-Monah, Lorna Welshman-Neblett, Joyce Chase, Wayne Daniels, Claire Ann Goring, Ashley Walters, Julia Bryan, Toshana Gregory, Chantelle Smith, Renelle Smith and Modestine Moye.
