Guyanese entertainment promoter, Philbert Giddings, will premier Guyana Fashion Showcase NY (GFS), a runway event, featuring Guyanese-American, Guyanese, and international designers, who will bring colorful collections to the Marine Park Golf Club, at 2880 Flatbush Ave., Brooklyn.

The Sunday, Sept. 5 couture extravaganza will begin at 6 pm and end with a soiree on the beautiful manicured lawns of the venue. The 60-foot runway will welcome an eclectic group of designers, many who showed their collection at the inaugural Guyana Fashion Showcase that was launched at the Ramada Princess Hotel Guyana in 2019.

Details of the after-show soiree will be announced via the GFS website and social media platforms.

Giddings, himself, a debonair dresser, told Caribbean Life that fashion fans should come prepared to enjoy an evening of opulence. He shared, that the not to be missed event, is a prelude to New York Fashion Week that returns to the runway, three days later, since the Coronavirus shutdown.

Some of the industry’s creative talent of seasoned, and emerging designers, will flood the catwalk with swim, urban, evening, classic and whimsical collections, all set against the backdrop of the themed, “Garden City” show.

On the lineup so far, are, New York’s Fashion Week favorite, CZAR by Cesar Galindo, and New York-based Guyanese designer, Michelle Cole-Wagner, Colefacts Collection of wedding gowns, evening and swimwear.

Also ready to take center state, are pageant/wedding/swim/costume collections, creator Randy Madray, and bridal couture, ready-to-wear, “Garden City Collection” by Sidney L. Francois, graduate, of E.R. Burrowes School of art. They will both travel from Georgetown for the presentation.

Giddings said he looks forward to working with his team of professionals, Director of Marketing, Sybil Chester, and multi-talented fashion expert and model, Clinton Duncan, who will serve as creative director.

He noted, that since the event will be held over the Labor Day weekend, carnival season in Brooklyn, he was scouting Caribbean artists to bring the spirit of the festival to the stage.

Part of the proceeds from the sale of tickets, $65.00 entrance fee and VIP Access pass $90.00, will go towards three orphanages in Guyana. A design workshop for students of the Borrows School of Art when the show returns to Guyana in 2022, will also benefit from the profits.

The businessman said despite not getting the sponsorship he had expected at the first show in 2019, he was fortunate to use personal resources to make the show a success, and is positive that this New York offering will do just as well. He thanked world-renowned, award-winning couturier, Guyanese-born Roger Gary for his participation, and production expertise at the maiden show in Guyana, noting that the designer will not show his Aqua Couture collection due to other pressing commitments.
