Let’s pay our debt to the veterans

To The Editor:

I’m calling for help for our homeless veterans. Firstly, please allow me to salute every American service man and woman presently in combat, veteran and their allies. It is my distinct honor and privilege to publicly say thank you for your love and courage, and thank God for you all.

Words are inadequate to express my profound gratitude to each of you for your valiant and selfless service to our nation and the helpless people you have been protecting and defending abroad. God bless you all!

Much thanks, also, to all our hard-working, loyal and insistent journalists and other media “generals” (as I like to call them) who consistently strive to keep us informed, inspired, educated and entertained. Wow! What outstanding service! What would we do without our media? Thank you all!

The most recent news about homeless veterans severely disturbed my spirit. I consider it a disgraceful and dangerous position for our nation and the world to be in. How can Americans have thousands of dedicated and brave men and women who courageously and selflessly served our country and the world being homeless veterans?

What is all this about? American veterans living homeless on the very streets that they sacrificed almost everything for? American veterans are destitute in rich and famous America? Isn’t this outrageous? Don’t we realize that homelessness among veterans is a deadly weapon against America and her allies?.

Homelessness among our veterans is a sure weapon to undermine the morale and strength of our troops and allies in combat. If we cannot provide basic shelter and food for our veterans, how wise and strong are we to protect and defend ourselves as a nation? If we are too busy to understand the psychology and ramifications of our actions, how can we expect to win this war?

The Oprah Winfrey Show as well as Sixty Minutes. and 20/20 aired recently revealed the alarming and shameful reality that many of our veterans are experiencing.

I investigated further and all I can say is, “It’s insane, incredible, pathetic and inhumane that hundreds of American veterans are living in their $10.-a-day rent-a-car, under bridges, on the streets, bus sheds, subway stations and cars, and abandoned dilapidated buildings. Disgraceful!!

Fellow Americans, there are just too many multi-millionaires and billionaires, enjoying the freedom of America, for us to have homeless veterans…This is absolute disgrace and danger to our nation and gross insult to our troops and allies.

The Bible says, “A word to the wise is sufficient.” Also, “Where there is no vision the people perish.” So Americans, let’s be wise, now that we are informed. Let’s unite and provide more houses and decent living conditions for our noble service men and women who answered the call to protect and defend Americans’ freedom and help other countries who dream of getting such freedom. Americans, let’s unite! Away with homelessness among our veterans! We have enough to share and lots of spares. Thanks to everyone for your time and patience. I look forward to working with you as we continue to build this blessed nation and help others. God bless you all and God bless America and her allies.

Sincerely yours,

Vivienne Marsh.
