Kym shows her talent at Jazzy Monday

Jazzy Monday at “For My Sweet” was packed on Monday, Feb. 20, to hear Kym Hampton make her vocal debut with The Jeff King Band.

Hampton was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. She played college basketball at Arizona State University and after college she spent six years in Europe playing for women’s teams in Spain, Italy, France and Portugal.

Finally, she returned to America to play in the WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association) as a member of the New York Liberty. After her career ended, she decided on a career as a jazz vocalist.

Jeff King who has one of the most organized bands in Brooklyn accepted the challenge of working with Hampton.

Hampton who has a strong, rich and mellow voice started with a song that showed her admiration for Nancy Wilson.

She did a version of the classic “Autumn Leaves,” which illustrated her ability to innovate on her own. Then she sang a song in Portuguese “Waiting for Angela,” which showed she could vocalize in more than one language.

The Jeff King Band with Kym Hampton was a smashing success that shouldn’t be missed in the future.

For My Sweet is a garden and event space located at 1103 Fulton Street in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn. Jazzy Mondays is growing as Brooklyn’s premier spot for jazz and live entertainment on Monday nights.
