Grenada opposition candidates to participate in 30th anniversary gala in Brooklyn

Two candidates, Claudette Joseph, LLB (candidate for the Town of St. George) and Adrian “Persuader” Thomas (candidate for St. David), of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique, are visiting New York City to participate in the party’s 30th anniversary gala in Brooklyn.

A statement from the party’s New York arm said the candidates will “meet, listen to and share information with members of the Grenadian community here, under the theme ‘Partnering with the Diaspora to build a new and vibrant Grenada, Carriacou & Petite Martinique’ for all.”

The two candidates will meet with Grenadians / constituents and friends of Grenada in the Diaspora at the party’s 30th Anniversary Gala Cocktail & Dance on Saturday, Oct. 21 and will be the main speakers at a town hall meeting the next day.

The New York group said the anniversary gala will be held at Island Catering Ballroom, 1963 Utica Ave. from 9 pm; while the town hall meeting will be at Tropical Reflections Ballroom, 4501 Glenwood Road, from 5 pm.

Additionally, the NDC New York arm said a “Grenadian Community Meet and Greet Walk-About” will be held from mid-morning on Saturday.

“Brooklyn locations frequented by Grenadians will be visited,” said the statement, adding that they include but are not limited to, La Bay Market, Ritz Cuisine, West Cuisine, Sam’s Fashions, Chef Gibbs Restaurant & Lounge, Puma’s Auto Shop and Yours & Mine Hair Salon.

“An essential part of the message of the candidates would entail an update on the economic situation in Grenada, as well as a presentation of details on the NDC’s upgraded re-building plans for the tri-island state, as announced in the party’s Policy Agenda: 2017 to 2030, which encourages all to ‘invest in Grenada, today,” the statement said.
