Dave Cameron was re-elected president of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) for a second term, eight to four, by the panel. Vice President Emmanuel Nathan also was re-elected. The WICB Annual general meeting was held at the Pegasus Hotel in Kingston, Jamaica on March 7.

Former West Indies fast bowler Joel Garner ran against Dave Cameron and lost. Garner is the president of the Barbados Cricket Association.

INDIA, NEW ZEALAND ON TOP IN WORLD CUP

India won four games from four matches and the team is on top of Pool B in the World Cup followed by South Africa and Pakistan. New Zealand leads Pool A by winning five games from five matches followed by Australia and Sri Lanka.

TOP BATSMEN IN WORLD CUP

AB de Villers scored 318 runs from five matches for South Africa while his fellow batsman Hamish Amla scored 295 runs from five matches. Zimbabweans Brendan Taylor and Sean Williams scored 295 and 289 runs respectively from five matches. West Indies batsman Chris Gayles scored 279 runs from five games.

WORLD CUP’S TOP BOWLERS

New Zealand’s Jim Southee picked up 13 wickets from four games, Josh Davey, 11 wickets from four games for Scotland, West Indies Jerome Taylor 11 wickets for five games and South Africa’s Morne Morkel, 11 wickets from five matches.

SRI LANKA STILL STRONG

Kumar Sangakkara and Jim Dilshan showed their strengths against Australia in spite of their team losing to the Aussies. Sangakkara and Dilshan scored a partnership of 134 runs for the third wicket with some intelligent batting. Sangakkara scored 104 runs from 107 balls and Dilshan 62 runs from 60 balls. Captain Ad Matthews and LD Chandimal can turn a game around. Chandimal retired hurt on 52 off 24 balls with eight fours and one six, at this stage Sri Lanka was 281 runs for four in the 42nd over, chasing 377 to win. Sri Lanka, Australia, New Zealand and India seem to be the teams that might be in the quarter finals. These are the teams that have performed reasonably competitive at a high level so far in the World Cup.

India defeating South Africa shows strength on behalf of India. The advantage India carries presently is their senior players are performing well and captain in Mahendra Singh has five unique bowlers doing a splendid job. The bowlers are: Shami, Ashwin, Yadav, Sharma and Jadeja.

Note: This World Cup winner must be able to keep he opposition calm for the last 15 overs of the allotted 50. Batting depth is essential, the middle order carries the burden of stability.
