Community Board 17 leadership recognition day

Community Board 17 in Brooklyn held its fourth annual community conference on the state of the district at the Kings County Hospital Center T-Building Auditorium.

Board 17 represents the communities of East Flatbush, North-East Flatbush, Rugby, Farragut, Hyde Park, Remsen Village, Ditmas Village and Erasmus.

This conference is one of the key forums used by the board to inform district residents of developments in the community and how it goes about addressing their concerns.

The conference will explain and examine the work being done by each of the Board’s standing committees. It’s aim, is to empower the community and effect positive change on an array of social, economic, financial and cultural issues.

Federal, state and local elected officals, as well as local community, civic, religious and business leaders were in attendance.

Among the local and national elected officials confirmed to attend were: U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, U.S. Rep. Yvette Clarke, US Rep. Edolphus Towns, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, State Sen. Eric Adams (20th S.D,), Hon. Kevin Parker, (21st S.D.), Hon. John Sampson, (19th S.D.), Hon. William Boyland, 55th A.D.; Hon. Karim Camara, 43rd A.D., Hon. Rhoda Jacobs, 42nd A.D., Hon. N. Nick Perry, 58th A.D.; Hon. Helene Weinstein, (41st A.D.)Hon. Charles Schumer, , Hon. Charles Barron, 42nd C.D., Hon. Mathieu Eugene, 40th C.D., Hon. Darlene Mealy, (41st C.D.,) Hon. Jumaane Williams, 45th C.D.

Also in attendance was Ms. Carmen L. Martinez, director, Community Action Group and her assistant, Ms. Sharon Forbes, from the New York City Comptroller’s Office.

Members of the Conference Committee renewed their their commitment to the dissemination of information important to community residents.
