Clean-up and earn free Mets game tickets

Council Member Jumaane D. Williams (D-Brooklyn) announced on Thursday, Aug. 9 a Community Clean-Up Day co-sponsored by East Flatbush Village, Inc. on Saturday, Aug. 18 between 10:00 a.m and 2:00 p.m. The event is an open invitation to local youth and businesses in the East Flatbush community to encourage environmental awareness. Participation will consist of cleaning up abandoned lots, parks and the yards of elderly residents and neglected foreclosed homes. In return, participants will receive free tickets to a New York Mets game.

This event is part of a larger effort by Council Member Williams to clean up the 45th District. On June 2, he hosted the Avenue D Clean-Up alongside the Kings County South Civic Association and Avenue D Merchants Association. The clean-up involved sweeping gutters and sidewalks and giving benches a new coat of paint. The majority of work was done by a group of youth from the Alternative Sentencing Unit of the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office.

“I have dedicated myself and my office to making the 45th District a safe place for young people to learn and grow, which is why this Community Clean-Up Day is so important to me,” said Council Member Williams. “I would sincerely like to thank the Mets on behalf of my constituents for this wonderful opportunity. I am excited that we will able to make a local environmental impact while assisting youth in giving back to the East Flatbush community. Partnerships such as these provide positive outlets for our youth and encourage a sense of pride for our own communities. “

Council Member Jumaane D. Williams represents the 45th Council District, which covers Flatbush, East Flatbush, Flatlands, and parts of Midwood and Canarsie. He is the chair of the Oversight and Investigations Committee and co-chair of the Task Force to Combat Gun Violence. He is also the co-vice chair of the Black, Latino and Asian Caucus and a founding member of the Progressive Caucus. He was first elected to office in 2009.
