Celebrating the glory of Sugar Hill

Heritage Health and Housing in partnership with NYC Department of Small Business Services, NYC Parks Department, NYC Police Department – 30th Pct., join forces for a special tribute to legendary jazz singer and famed resident Johnny Hartman.

Entitled, “Johnny Hartman Was Here! A Jazz Tribute to the Man, the Music, the Moment,” this outdoor event pays homage to the velvet voice balladeer’s outstanding contribution to music and his beloved uptown community.

The event will be held at Johnny Hartman Plaza, 143rd Street at Amsterdam Avenue and Hamilton Place on July 12 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Themed “Come Celebrate the Glory of Sugar Hill” this performance-driven celebration will include a special tribute by Hartman’s daughter, Lori Hartman.

Other performances will include The Chuk Fowler Trio; Carlos Jimenez Jazz Quartet; The J.C. Styles Trio, Emme Kemp Trio and swing dancing with Luther Gales.

Special invited guest include N.Y. State Assemblyman Keith Wright; City Councilman Robert Jackson; WBGO 88.3 radio personality Sheila Anderson; WHR 90.3 radio personality Lamon Fenner, and Hartman’s widow, Theadora Hartman.

The evening’s honorees include America Legion Post #369; Lana Turner and Luther Gales.
