Trinidadian Pat Nurse says her mas band, Carican Costumes, will demonstrate to masqueraders and spectators alike “How to Stay Healthy” during this year’s West Indian American Day Carnival Parade.

Nurse, who has been participating in the parade for the past 15 years, told Caribbean Life that the mixed “How to Stay Healthy” production will comprise four children sections: Brush Your Teeth Every Day; Sports; Eat Healthy and Sleep Tight.

She said 20 masqueraders, of “every nationality,” will perform in each section, with King, Queen and characters included.

Nurse said preparations to date for this year’s parade have been “great.”

“We always have volunteers, parents and some of the children helping,” she said.

Nurse said the children masqueraders will be given refreshments, balloons, whistles and toys along the parade route, as they jig to the sounds of DJ Tolo.

From 2008-2017, Nurse said Carican Costumes, which she founded in 1997, has “always won a prize every year,” adding that this year will not be an exception.

The mas camp is located at 547 Lincoln Pl., #2A, Brooklyn, between Franklin and Classon Aves.
