Congratulations to Brooklynite – the lovely Mallory Hagan, Miss America 2013, a former resident of Bedford Stuyvesant who tapped her way into the pageant’s history with an exciting performance to James Brown’s hit – “Get Up Off Of That Thing.”
From the moment the 23-year old Fashion Institute of Technology Cosmetics Management major stepped onto the stage in the swimsuit competition, during the pageant on Saturday in Las Vegas, she wowed the audience, garnering thunderous applause.
Wearing a stunning white asymmetric shoulder white floor length gown, the queen referred to her sense of style as similar to that of (JLo)- Jennifer Lopez during a backstage interview.
Hagan, cinched the titled after answering the question posed to her during the Q&A segment about whether armed guards belong in grade schools. She articulated her answer by saying “we should not fight violence with violence.”
The beauty that was born in Opelika, Ala moved to Brooklyn in 2008 according to ABC News, with less that $1000 in her pocket, and entered the pageant while working as a waitress in Manhattan.
