Golden Krust Caribbean Restaurants is giving consumers a chance to sample its world-famous Jamaican patties for free, as it celebrates its 4th Annual National Jamaican Patty Day (NJPD).

The event takes place on Aug. 4, from noon to 4 pm, at the restaurant chain’s original location on Gun Hill Road in the Bronx.

Hosted by the “King of Caribbean Comedy” Majah Hype and featuring a live performance by Sean Kingston, as well as DJ MadOut spinning Caribbean beats, Golden Krust said Monday that “NJPD aims to celebrate the ‘Power of the Patty,’ and the vision of Golden Krust’s Founder Lowell Hawthorne to elevate the beauty of Jamaican cuisine and culture.”

Throughout the day, the restaurant chain said there will be a photo booth, branded giveaways, face-painting, several exhibitors and free health screenings.

Attendees will also have the chance to take part in the famous Golden Krust patty eating contest.

Golden Krust Caribbean Restaurants said consumers, who are unable to attend the event in the Bronx, “will have the opportunity to enjoy the delicious flaky patty at participating restaurants nationwide at the special price of 99 cents from noon to 4 pm.”

“This year’s National Jamaican Patty Day marks the first since the passing of Golden Krust’s beloved founder and leader, Lowell Hawthorne,” said Al Novas, president and chief executive officer.

“The event represents an appropriate time to recognize the positive next steps that the company has taken under the leadership of Lowell’s family and heirs, as well as to carry on his legacy,” he added.

Golden Krust Caribbean Restaurants said National Jamaican Patty Day coincides with the anniversary of the restaurant’s launch in August 1989, Jamaica’s Independence and Emancipation holidays, and the birthday of Mavis Ephraim, the mother and matriarch of the Hawthorne family.

Known for its signature golden crust patties and other Caribbean culinary delights, Golden Krust Caribbean Restaurants said it is “the fastest growing Caribbean franchises in the United States, with over 120 franchise restaurants in nine (soon-to-be 10) states and Canada.”

Golden Krust said it also operates a retail division that provides Jamaican patties to the New York City public schools, the penal system, military channels and over 25,000 supermarkets, club stores and dollar stores nationwide.

“Golden Krust Caribbean Restaurants, a wholly Jamaican-owned chain of fast casual restaurants, continues on an aggressive growth path with the company eyeing expansion not only in the US, but will soon open its first restaurant in Canada over the next two weeks,” the statement said.
