Jamaican sprint superstar Usain Bolt has retired from track and field with a warning to drug cheats.
Bolt, last race was in the 200 meters at the London 2017 Olympics Championships where he failed to get gold and had to settle for bronze, is suggesting that athletes who uses drugs (anabolic steroid to increase muscle strength) should get a life ban.
“We hit rock bottom last year or the year before and now we’re on our away backup. Now we have to be strict on this (drug use) to help the sport stay in good place. I’ve proven to the world you can do it. You can be great without doping, that’s one of the things I want to preach to the younger kids,” he told reporters in England on the final day of the competition.
Bolt wants to mentor to youngsters, particularly in his native Jamaica where he intends to occupy most of his times on retirement. But first, he said, will come to the nightclubs of London and Jamaica
Track and field has been Bolt’s life since his remarkable talent was identified at the age of 10.
Over the past 20 years, Bolt has won three of his eight Olympic titles at London 2012
He is blaming the lengthy wait in the cold weather before the 4×100 meter relay last Saturday night which may have contributed to what he said was a pulled hamstring injury, which caused him to pull up in the event.
Bolt had said he had no regrets about continuing after winning three gold medals at Rio 2016, but he said that the London 2017 Olympics would be his last.
