The Brooklyn-based Progressive Democrats Political Association (PDPA) says it will be celebrating the 55th independence anniversaries of Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago with its annual dinner cruise on Aug. 13.
PDPA, headed by former New York City Council Member, Jamaican-born Dr. Una S.T. Clarke, said the celebration will take place aboard the luxurious Hornblower.
The boat will depart at Pier 40, 353 West St., in Manhattan, at 6 pm sharp.
During the cruise, which will take patrons alongside the Statue of Liberty, among other New York City attractions, PDPA said a number of Caribbean community figures will be honored.
“This year’s honorees come from not only Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago but also from other nations of the Caribbean — St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados and Guyana,” PDPA said.
It said among the distinguished honorees and organizations is the MICO University Alumni Association, NY Chapter, “recognized for 45 years of stellar service to the community and their institution in Jamaica.”
Other honorees representing the major islands are: Diana Miller, court officer (Barbados); Wilton Grannum, real estate executive (Guyana); Hyacinth Henry-Cameron, Registered Nurse, Ouida Duncan of The Duncan Tree Foundation, and Peter Ivey, internationally-renowned Reggae Chef (Jamaica); Vaughan Toney, chief executive officer and president of the Brooklyn-based Friends of Crown Heights Educational Centers (St. Vincent and the Grenadines); and Nicole Langlaise, entrepreneur, and Anne-Rhea Smith, Trinidadian cultural talent promoter (Trinidad and Tobago).
