Sacked West Indies coach Phil Simmons will become the new head coach of the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots for the 2017 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) season.

The new Patriots coach expressed delight that recently signed star batsman Chris Gayle is looking forward to working with him to bring the desired success for St. Kitts and Nevis franchise.

Simmons, a Trinidadian, was an explosive West Indies batting all-rounder in his heyday.

He retired from cricket in 2002 and embarked on a successful coaching career.

Simmons coached Ireland’s cricket team from 2007 to 2015.

He is best known for coaching the West Indies team to victory in the ICC World R20 in India last year.
