Do you hear the sounds — that’s New York making music.
The Make Music New York festival was back for its annual free music festival on June 21 at Ronald McNair park, for a day-long festival of performances from various different artists from all over the world. Guests got to expose themselves to different sounds, and even some of the performers had some fun on the action.
“There was a reggae artist performing, and the kids were doing the dance steps with him,” said Steve Frechtman, manager for the young band Control the Sound. “It was so incredible.”
The young band made their second appearance at the fesival, and performed five songs, including a cover to Prince song, “When You Were mine,” to a crowd of about 150 people, according to Frechtman.
The 10-year-old Make Music New York festival gives a stage to a series of local artists at several parks and locations around the city, allowing them to play their music to the locals for free.
A memorable moment for some, was the camaraderie among the artists, and the appreciative crowd. “It was a really, really fun event, cause the guys there were incredibly helpful and helped us set up the drums and set,” said Frechtman. “They were great and so supportive. The crowds really enjoyed it and had fun with kids.”
