Brooklyn is celebrating Caribbean Fashion, Food, Art and Music Fair 2016, which is being held from May 2-29 at Brooklyn Commons, 495 Flatbush Avenue.

According to Claudius Phillips, president and chief executive officer of CBUSA, Inc. and Lancaster Youth Forum PA, Brooklyn Chapter, the fair is modified from its original format to fit the new space at Brooklyn Commons.

Phillips said the fair is being used to launch Caribbean Week 2016 as part of the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s (CTO) celebration of Caribbean Week activities in Brooklyn.

Caribbean Week this year will be officially launched in Brooklyn, with an Ecumenical service at St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church on Hawthorne Street, on Sunday, May 29, Phillips said.

He said Lancaster Youth Forum PA, Brooklyn Chapter, Brooklyn Commons and CTO New York’s office are collaborating to produce the fair.

“The fair is an effort to ensure that Caribbean-inspired fashion designers, Caribbean-inspired chefs or restaurateurs, Caribbean-inspired fine artists and musicians are given an opportunity to present their skill to New Yorkers on the weekend prior to memorial weekend,” Phillips said.

He said Friday, May 27 is set aside for buyers between 1 am and 1 pm, and would give designers and artists an opportunity to engage volume buyers.

Phillips said a Caribbean-themed concert will be held the next day, featuring several different genre of Caribbean music, including Gospel Jazz.

Brother Danny and Petula Beckles will be among the performers.

Caribbean designers, chefs, artists and music producers are urged to register by contacting Phillips at 717-666-7192 or by email at cobcorp159@gmail.com.
