Several Jamaicans and Trinidadians will be honored on Sunday during the sixth annual combined celebration of Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago’s 53rd anniversary of independence.

The “icons” will be honored during Brooklyn’s Progressive Democrats Political Association’s (PDPA) “Reggae vs. Soca” gala dinner cruise celebration aboard the Hornblower. The boat departs Pier 40, in lower Manhattan, at 6 pm.

The honorees are: Michael Babwar (T&T); Michael Blake (Ja); Dr. Roben Clarke (Ja); Patrick Clarke (Ja); Sharon Gordon (Ja); Naomi Henry (T&T); Vinetta Mc lntosh (Ja); Balfour Peart (Ja); Joyce Quamina (T&T); Earnest Skinner (T&T); Desmond West (Ja); and Shelley Vidia Worrell (T&T).

PDPA President and Founder, Dr. Una S.T. Clarke, a former New York City Councilmember, said the “icons” will be honored for their “outstanding contributions to the growth and development of our communities.”

“This is a special time for both countries, as they are the first two CARICOM (Caribbean Community) nations to become independent (Aug. 6 for Jamaica, and Aug. 31 for Trinidad & Tobago),” she added.
