Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams on Sunday led the Unity Parade of Flags, featuring the colors of all the member states of the United Nations, in a march from the Brooklyn Bridge to Cadman Plaza Park as he kicked off his second annual celebration of International Day of Friendship.
Participants in this year’s festivities also enjoyed an array of cultural performances, highlighting the artistic expression of various nations, as well as complimentary tastes of global cuisine.
“Our borough and our city are such a special place to live, because here integration of different cultures occur,” Adams told Caribbean Life afterwards.
“It’s what I call ‘Brooklyn Fusion’ International Day of Friendship, a holiday, which is formally recognized worldwide,” he added.
“It allows us to attract hundreds of Brooklynites to enjoy cultural exchange and the borough’s diversity,” continued Adams, stating that 47 percent of Brooklynites speak a language other than English at home.
On International Day of Friendship, the United Nations encourages events and initiatives that promote dialogue among civilizations, as well as solidarity, mutual understanding and reconciliation.
Adams’ celebration of the event attracted hundreds of Brooklynites to Brooklyn Borough Hall to enjoy cultural exchanges.
