The streets of Georgetown were amassed with citizens wearing the colors of their chosen party for the General and Regional elections, expected to draw a large turnout at the polls on the May 11, 2015.
On Tuesday, April 7, the two major parties, the incumbent PPP/C and the newly formed APNU+AFC Coalition marched to City Hall in Georgetown and presented their lists of candidates to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).
Presidential Candidate of the PPP/C Donald Ramotar, and Prime Ministerial candidate, Elizabeth Harper, and cabinet ministers Irfan Ali, Frank Anthony and Sam Hinds, Robert Persaud, Clinton Collymore, Anthony Edghill, and former president Bharrat Jagdeo, among others, are on the list.
The PPP Version 2.0 says, “we see a Guyana committed to longer, better lives for all of our people.”
“We invite all Guyana to join us as we continue the journey to an even better land. We will stay the course and we will not take another detour. We know the road we have travelled and we have arrived at a better place in 2015.
“It is for this reason we know that this road will take us to where we want to be – a land where our destiny of one people one nation one destiny is realized.”
A Partner for National Unity and Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) saw a historic supporter turnout in the thousands outside of City Hall as it presented its list to GECOM. The backers then paraded through the streets to Parade Ground in the heart of Georgetown waving their yellow and green flags, chanting “It Is Time.”
Presidential Candidate David Granger, assured supporters that the party’s list represents the five parties of the APNU and the AFC, that make up the coalition.
“We feel the Guyanese population will accept this list as a whole,” said Granger.
Prime Ministerial Candidate Moses Nagamootoo in turn called the campaign a movement for the future, and of the future.
Some of the names on the APNU+AFC coalition list include John Adams, Beverley Alert, Richard Allen, Anna Ally, Shamir Ally, Mark Archer, Joseph Harmon and Carl Greenidge.
