Seven Caribbean beauties will vie this Saturday evening for Miss New York Continental 2014 at George Wingate Campus in Brooklyn.
The contestants will be representing St. Vincent and the Grenadines (Shereescia Browne); Tobago (Jadini Phillips); Grenada (Imani Peterson); New York Elite (Joseanne Harper); Barbados (Drina Akuetarie); St. Lucia (Kelly Indy Smith); and Trinidad (Aaniya Johnson).
Miss Jamaica, who was initially slated to appear in the pageant, will not be doing so, according to Yvonne Peters, the Vincentian-born president of the organizing group.
“At this moment, the committee for the Caribbean American Cultural Group, Inc. is working diligently to ensure that our audience enjoys the Miss New York Continental 2014 Pageant,” Peters told Caribbean Life.
“Our contestants are from our community right here in New York, yet representing islands from the Caribbean through prenatal heritage, Caribbean or U.S. born,” she added, stating that the young ladies will make three appearances in which “they will eloquently display grace, poise and knowledge with swim wear, talent and evening wear.”
Peters said the beauties will end the evening with an interview from a panel of judges.
Doors open at 5:00 p.m. at George Wingate Campus, 600 Kingston Ave, behind Kings County Hospital Center.
