West Indies Cricket Board President Dave Cameron must recognize that West Indies cricket has taken a deeper fall in its management, selection panel, coach and captaincy. Some proper action must be taken to create an admirable image of West Indies cricket. Too many inconsistencies, lack of proper communication and a total loss of effective strategies to uphold the dignity of the sport and if Mr. Cameron does not act, this would show weakness under his administration. At this time he should be calling for resignations of certain individuals as in captain, coach and chairman of selectors.
PLAYERS MUST PARTICIPATE WHERE THEY PERFORM BEST
Too many players are emerging and starting their careers and after a few series they are thrown to the wayside because they are not technically correct or maybe they were chosen for the wrong format of the game. The West Indies approach has to be different at all the levels. It starts with the leadership.
NAGICO SUPER50 STARTS JAN. 30
Eight teams will compete in this year’s Super50 competition. The teams In group “A” are Jamaica, Windward Islands, Guyana and Ireland. Group “B” will be Trinidad, Barbados, Leewards and Combined Colleges and Campuses. West Indies cricket team has not been doing well around the region. The competition will instil in the players the way to go about capturing 50-over matches. Chris Gayle will captain Jamaica, Christopher Bramwell will lead Guyana, Guyana won this competition in 1980, 1983, 1985, 1993, 1995, 1998, 2001 and 2003. Guyana squad: Cristopher Branwell {captain}, Rohin Bacchus, Trevon Griffith, Leon Johnson, Shivnarine Chanderpaul (vice captain} Narsingh Deonarine, Pamnersh Sarwan, Royston Crandon, Assad Fudadin, Anthony Bramble (Wicket keeper}, Devendra Bishoo, Veerasammy Permaul and Ronsford Beaton. Guyana will play Ireland on Jan. 31, Windward Islands on Feb. 4 and Jamaica on Feb. 8. All the Super50 games will be played in Trinidad.
JEROME TAYLOR RETURNS FOR JAMAICA
Jamaica’s right-arm fast bowler Jerome Taylor who played 29 Test matches and picked up 82 wickets will return to his team in this year’s Super50 competition. Taylor’s best figures were in 2009 against England at Sabina Park in Jamaica when he took 5 wickets for 11 runs as England were bowled out for 51.
Taylor’s return should be good, not only for Jamaica, but also for the West Indies provided he hits top form. With Kemar Roach, Tino Best and Jerome Taylor in form, they should be a great force as specialist bowlers when they set out to do their jobs in Tests.
