Passport Day cancelled because of sequestration

The Department of State is blaming sequestration as the reason for cancelling Passport Day that was scheduled for Saturday, March 9 at its Hudson Street, NYC location.

In an exclusive statement to Caribbean Life, Press Director Michael Hoffman, said the agency regrettably cannot offer the services, that has become an annual event allowing agencies and participating passport acceptance facilities to process passports without an appointment.

He added that citizens should instead visit www.travel.state.gov, or call the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778 for more information on how to apply at the nearest regional passport agency or acceptance facility.

According to Hoffman, some non-Department of State passport application acceptance facilities such as post offices and clerks of court may be open on Saturday, March 9.

In the meantime, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Passport Services, Brenda S. Sprague, will answer questions about applying for a passport via Twitter on Monday, March 4, at 10:00 a.m., for one hour. Tweet @TravelGov using #AskState.
