Gibson and Sammy must get the boot

Gibson and Sammy must get the boot

West Indies head coach Ottis Gibson and Test captain Darren Sammy must be relieved of their positions after the disastrous performance of the West Indies cricket team in India recently. The team lost both the Test and One-day series. There seems to be a lack of selective abilities and an overall out-of-control stigma, which plague the West Indies cricket team. The decision-making has been very poor and inspite of constant failures within the team and lack of success, no proper changes have been made.

Gibson, a former bowling coach with the English team, has not been impressive with the West Indies squad. Captain Sammy is yet to show his credibility. His decision-making has been very poor and continues to get poorer. It is not uncommon for both captain and coach to be removed at the same time because when England removed captain Kevin Pietersen, the coach was also removed.

West Indies cricket authorities must be constantly diligent in restoring respect for the team and ensuring that qualified people always occupy the important positions. For too long the progress of West Indies cricket has been hampered by too many inefficient people making bad decisions.

DAVE CAMERON MUST ADDRESS SiGNIFICANT CONCERNS

When Dave Cameron took over the presidency of the West Indies Cricket Board, it was widely believed that some significant structural changes would have been made. Though some vital efforts have been made at the lower level for the development of younger players, the senior team is not at the level it should be.

West Indies bowling appeared to have lost its strength following the injury of Kemar Roach. However, this should not be, because Tino Best took up the challenge and showed his class as a developed Test bowler. He is controlling the ball much better than before and when Roach returns these two bowlers should create havoc for any top team.

Shane Shillingford and Sunil Narine are West Indies’ specialist Test spinners, therefore both of them must be included in the touring team.

Narsingh Deonarine’s Test position is secure. He is an all-rounder who has shown that his talents are a contributory factor to the team’s success. He bowls a pretty good fast off-spin with good control and he picks wickets. With his batting, Deonarine has proven to be solid and capable of holding down a middle-order position in Test cricket. Every effort must be made at all times to have the best players in the Final Eleven.
