Today’s news:

Ramneresh Sarwan returns to Windies squad

West Indies selectors have recalled former Guyanese Captain Ramneresh Sarwan to the West Indies squad for the tour of Australia from Jan. 29 to Feb. 13.

It is nice to have the prolific batsman back in the batting line up for the West Indies because his experience will be greatly needed down under. Sarwan is a solid batsman and he has exhibited his runs free style on many occasions for the West Indies. The 15 players named for Australia are: Darren Sammy [captain], Dwayne Bravo [vice captain], Jason Holder, Ramneresh Sarwan, Johnson Charles, Devon Thomas, Kemar Roach, Darren Bravo, Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Kieran Powell, Sunil Narine, Samuel Badree, Narsingh Deonarine and Jino Best.

KRISHMAR SANTOKIE DESERVE A PLAY IN WINDIES TEAM

It is only fitting that Krishmar Santokie gets to play on the West Indies senior team in the One-Day International and Twenty20 matches. His left-arm bowling has been useful for Jamaica and with Ravi Rampaul out sick, it would have been correct to add a left-hand bowler in the line-up for Australia. The exposure would have been good for Krishmar Santokie and the development of his game.

Looking at the 15-member squad I thought that the selectors would have gone with another bowler instead of a batsman. The squad has six specialist bowlers, which will have to do very well against the Aussies.

The batting seems to be very good on paper but Australia is a very tough team to defeat under their conditions. This should be a thriller series with both teams having some young players to prove themselves. The West Indies team is the Twenty20 world champion and after losing the One-Day International series to Bangladesh, proves that the West Indies team is still weak in some areas.

TWENTY20 BATTING WAS NOT OF THE BEST

The Twenty20 batting for the regional competition has been very poor and most of the players from the various teams have been way below expectations. Darren Bravo has been the most consistent.

The bowlers who have been peforming well are Samuel Badree, Shannon Gabriel, Sunil Narine, Jino Best and Steven Jacobs.

WEST INDIES PLAYERS OUGHT TO FOCUS MUCH MORE

Intelligent cricket and proper focus on one’s game must lead to success and young West Indies players must create a game plan for themselves. Success comes from planning and hard work.

Some players are naturally talented and perform adequately on most of the occasions when expected while others have to work harder on their game and set themselves heavy tasks for preparation.

The West Indies players have to put much more effort into their game.
