During the Regional Four-Day competition in the Caribbean it has been shown that the batsmen in the region have difficulties in achieving a high scoring rate. The competition has shown that the batting falls apart easily and the past high esteem of West Indies batsmen is not being maintained.

Most of the players who should be making significant contributions in their batting have been failing frequently. Kirk Edwards, Darren Bravo and Marlon Samuels have not scored many runs and their poor scoring may affect the West Indies’ efforts in the test matches.

Adrian Barath returned from his injury and scored a century for Trinidad and Tobago against Guyana.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul has shown his top class as usual and Barbados opener Kraig Brathwaite is still to show that he is in top form. In the start of the test series against Australia in the West Indies, the local batsmen will have to perform very well for their team to have any chances of success.
