An arrest warrant has been issued and a “Red Notice” authorized by Interpol for the arrest of Michael Eugene Misick, the former premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands, according to a spokesman for the governor of the Turks and Caicos.

The spokesperson said in a press release: “For the past several months the Special Investigation and Prosecutions Team (SIPT) has sought to secure the attendance of Mr. Misick at its offices in Providenciales in respect of allegations of corruption and money laundering during his term of office.’

The release further stated that, every opportunity has been given to Misick to voluntarily surrender to the SIPT’s jurisdiction for interview. However, it says despite previous indications from Misick’s attorneys that he would attend for interview, he has failed to do so.

In June last year, the assets for the former premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands were frozen worldwide.

Turks and Cacios Islands Chief Justice Gordon Ward made the order to freeze all of Misick’s assets, including bank accounts in Turks and Caicos and overseas, his personal residence in Providenciales, parcels of land throughout the Turks and Caicos Islands, two condominiums, a cinema in Providenciales which still carriers a variation of his ex-wife Lisa-Raye McCoy’s name, and several credit cards.

Governor Ric Todd, in August 2009, resumed daily administration of the affairs of the British Overseas Territory, disbanded the locally elected government and suspended the legislature after a commission of inquiry said it found widespread corruption under the Misick administration.

The former premier, who resigned in March 2009, has called on all Turks and Caicos Islanders, churches and political parties to put aside their differences and “unite to fight the common enemy-Britain.”

At the end of their recent intersessional summit in Suriname, CARICOM governments reiterated “their concern of non-representative government in the associate member of the Turks and Caicos.
