Uncover Church Avenue Art Exhibit

The Church Avenue Business Improvement District (Church Avenue BID) presents the exhibition for “Uncover Church Avenue,” a public art program to install murals on commercial gates along Church Avenue.

The exhibition is being held at the Flatbush Branch of the Brooklyn Public Library and will be on display through Feb. 24, 2012. The opening night of the exhibition took place on Tuesday, Jan. 17 and brought together artists, families, business owners and community leaders to celebrate the latest program from the Church Avenue BID.

About 50 persons gathered in the gallery space to view design proposals and cast their vote for the murals, which will appear on Church Avenue in Spring 2012.

Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz thanked everyone involved, acknowledging the participation of Uncover Church Avenue’s younger artists, which includes many students from Erasmus Hall.

New York State Senator Eric Adams and Council Member Matheiu Eugene joined in support of the merchants, artists, and community members.

Guests were treated to a diverse assortment of dishes donated by popular Church Avenue restaurants, including curry chicken and roti from Shayna’s Restaurant, quinoa from Downtown Natural, freshly made tortilla chips and salsa from El Acuario, fresh fruit from Church Fruit Farm and vegetarian spring rolls and dumplings from Am-Thai (opening a sit- down restaurant later this month).

Uncover Church Avenue is sponsored by AvenueNYC, a program from the NYC Department of Small Business Services, Astoria Federal Savings Bank and the Brooklyn Arts Council.

This program is made possible, in part, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts. In Kings County the Decentralization Program is administered by the Brooklyn Arts Council, Inc. (BAC).
