City council sponors homeowner assistance event

Yonkers homeowners who are underwater and facing foreclosure in the wake of the recent recession have an opportunity to improve their situation by attending a one-day Homeowner Assistance Event on Jan. 19, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 40 S. Broadway, Yonkers, N.Y. 10701.

The event is being organized by the City Council President’s office in partnership with JP Morgan Chase Bank, N.A.

At the event, customers will be able to speak one-on-one with Chase customer assistance specialists and discuss options available to lower monthly payments, or find other ways that could help avoid foreclosure and make a new start. Those who can not make it to the event are urged to call Chase at 866-550-5705.

According to Chase Bank, some 160 Chase mortgage holders are qualified to attend and have been directly contacted via letter by the bank and instructed to bring the letter, a completed Request for Modification and Affidavit form, bank statements for the past two months, two of the homeowner’s most recent pay stubs with year-to-date earnings, and if they are independent contractor’s or self-employed, to bring their most recent quarterly or year-to-date profit and loss statement with company name and date.

Council President Chuck Lesnick whose office worked with Chase Bank since last summer to hold this event said, “We all know of someone who has been impacted by the recent hard times. To lose one’s home due to the bad economy is a tragedy. I look forward to see our residents able to stay in their homes and work out terms of their mortgages that are fair and affordable. I also hope more banks will step up and offer the same opportunity for our homeowners facing similar circumstances.”

Parking for the event will be free in the City’s Government Center garage to those Chase customers attending. Attendees are asked to bring their parking tickets with them in exchange for a three-hour paid validated pass upon leaving.
