‘Share The Dream’ of Dr. MLK

An open invitation has been extended by the Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, Medgar Evers College and the Brooklyn Academy of Music to “Come Share the Dream” of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, Jan. 16.

The 26th annual tribute to the peace advocate is slated to begin at 10:30 a.m. in the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House in the Peter Jay Sharp Building, 30 Lafayette Ave.

The program features a keynote address by Dennis M. Walcott, chancellor of the NYC Department of Education. A musical performance by Toshi Reagon, BIG Lovely and Institutional Radio Choir (The Hit Makers) are also planned. Master of ceremonies for the morning tribute is Sandra Chapman, deputy borough president of Brooklyn.

A film screening of “The Black Power Mixtape 1967 – 1975” will follow at the BAM Rose Cinemas. The celebratory event promises to bring together artists and civic leaders to commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. King. The event is free.

Weekend celebrations will also feature Chandra Rule and MuthaWit at BAMcafe Live.

“Picture The Dream,” an art exhibition will also be on display.

Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-seated basis starting at 8:00 a.m. in the BAM Peter Jay Sharp lobby.
