The Harlem Business Alliance is “Leading the Way through Partnership” literally. This mantra is not just a slogan but HBA’s core philosophy. For 31 years, HBA has served as a strong and tireless advocate for the business community in Harlem.
The HBA hosted its 31st Awards Celebration on Dec. 8.
HBA Awards Celebration Chair Maurice Grey said, “We gather tonight with our friends, colleagues and family members to honor Arthur Barnes, Michael Garner, Carol Griffin, Joe & Sheron Barnes, and Jackie Rowe Adams, for their distinguished achievement in business, the arts and public service. We celebrate these six talented leaders of our community, who are shining examples of success through diligence.”
The Chairman’s Award was presented to Arthur Barnes (National Jazz Museum in Harlem), Government Service Award to Michael Garner (Metropolitan Transit Authority), Entrepreneur of the Year Award to Joe & Sheron Barnes (Mobay Uptown Restaurant),Community Service Award to Jackie Rowe Adams (Harlem Mothers Save), Business Person of the Year Award to Carol Griffin (Griffin Real Estate Group).
Through the creation of strategic partnerships with the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone, NYC Department of Small Business Services, City College, Columbia University, Minority Business Leadership Council and support from City Councilwoman Inez Dickens and Senator Bill Perkins, HBA has leveraged these resources to promote the creation, preservation and businesses in Harlem.
