Darren Sammy was reappointed captain of the West Indies team until the end of the year, ending speculation over the 27-year-old St. Lucian’s role in the regional team.
The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) said that Sammy would lead the Windies to England for the Twenty20 International double-header against the hosts in September and would also captain the team in the away series against Bangladesh and India later this year.
Four uncapped players have been called up to a new-look West Indies team for the England double-header, with selectors including the enigmatic Dwayne Smith for the trip.
Opening batsmen Miles Bascombe and Johnson Charles, along with all-rounder Nkrumah Bonner and wicket-keeper Derwin Christian, have all been picked for the first time in the squad.
The side will be without international Twenty20 stars Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard, none of whom are eligible after missing the Caribbean T20 Championship earlier this year.
No Trinidad and Tobago players were considered because of their participation in the Champion League in India in September.
WICB chairman of selectors Clyde Butts said he was confident the new players in the squad would perform up to scratch.
The squad: Darren Sammy (captain), Christopher Barnwell, Miles Bascome, Devendra Bishoo, Nkrumah Bonner, Johnson Charles, Derwin Christian, Fidel Edwards, Danza Hyatt, Ashley Nurse, Andre Russell, Marlon Samuels, Krishmar Santokie and Dwayne Smith.
