First Annual Harlem Fathers’ Day Parade

Event: First Annual Harlem Fathers’ Day Parade and Men of Color Conference & Forum

Purpose: The Harlem Transformation Project is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to transforming the minds and lives of youth and young adults in Harlem toward consciously achieving progress and prosperity by helping them to realize their potential and to build on their historical greatness. The Parade, a “Coming Together of Men of Color,” who walk as one in mind, body and spirit, will serve to bring awareness to and support of this directive.

Date: Saturday, July 30, 2011

Time: Parade lineup begins at 10:30 a.m. PARADE kicks off at 12 noon immediately followed by Men of Color Conference and Forum.

Parade Lineup Location: Lenox Terrace Apartments at the corner of 133rd Street and Malcolm X Boulevard (“Lenox” Avenue). (Parade Route: 133rd to 135th Street, turns left on to Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Blvd and continues to to 121st Street.)

Men Of Color Conference/Forum Location: A. Philip Randolph Middle School, 220 West 121st Street and Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Blvd. TIME: 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Conference Activities: Simultaneous mini-seminars conducted by prominent public figures and speakers in several classrooms.

SPEAKERS: Honorable Keith Wright, Assemblyman, Minister Abdul Hafeez Muhammad/Harlem Mosque #7; Jazz Hayden/Riverside Prison Ministry; Dr. Pryor/Medgar Evers College; Dr. Charles Deberry, Principal, A. Philip Randolph; Ryan Mack, Founder/CEO Optimum Capital Management; Rev. Conrad B.Tillard; Chet Whye/Harlem4; and elected officials and community leaders.

Topics: Collective Vision; Family and Community; “The New Jim Crow”/Mass Incarceration; Undoing Racism; Leadership; Education and Entrepreneurship.
