Kingsbrook receives prestigious health care award

Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center recently received the IPRO Award for its “organization-wide, exemplary commitment to quality improvement in surgical care improvement.”

The award recognizes Kingsbrook’s “outstanding commitment to quality practices and patient safety.”

Each year IPRO recognizes outstanding performance by health care providers and stakeholders throughout New York State with its Quality Awards Program. This year’s honorees included hospitals, nursing homes, an ambulatory care facility and patient support organizations.

IPRO is a national organization providing a full spectrum of healthcare assessment and improvement services that foster more efficient use of resources and enhance healthcare quality to achieve better patient outcomes. Founded in 1984, IPRO is highly regarded for the independence of its approach, the depth of its knowledge and experience, and the integrity of its programs.

“This award is a significant honor and a testament to our team effort in improving patient safety and clinical effectiveness for patients undergoing surgery,” states Dr. Kurt Kodroff, vice president of quality at Kingsbrook, “We are grateful to IPRO for their expertise, and the support they provided for this project which has resulted in Kingsbrook meeting best practice standards for preventing surgical site infections.”

Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, an 864-bed teaching medical center in Brooklyn, is celebrating its 86th year. Its “Centers of Excellence” include: a rehabilitation institute offering physical and rehabilitative medicine, including Brooklyn’s only New York State approved traumatic brain injury and coma recovery unit; an inpatient geriatric psychiatry program, pharmacy, radiology, the Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Center, orthopedic surgery, a Women’s Wellness Center featuring minimally-invasive gynecological surgery and state-of-art digital mammography unit.

Other specialty areas include: emergency services, ambulatory surgery and a certified non-invasive vascular laboratory, as well as a 538-bed adult and pediatric long-term care facility. Kingsbrook and Rutland Nursing Home are certified and not-for-profit members of the Greater New York Hospital Association and the Healthcare Association of New York State.
