Sir Vivian Richards and Sachin Tendulkar are undoubtedly outstanding cricketers. Richards dominated the game during his time. He was truly magnificent at the crease and he made the Caribbean region proud whether he was playing at home or abroad.

Tendulkar who is still playing holds many outstanding records. He has scored the most centuries (10) and is the only batsman to score a double century in a 50-over international match. He has scored the most Test and one-day runs in international cricket.

Perfect Example

Sachin Tendulkar has exhibited discipline on and off the cricket field, which young cricketers should take as example. To be successful in any career or professional sport one has to demonstrate a great level of discipline.

Apart from Tendulkar’s cricket talent, he is a true ambassador not only for India but globally. Sir Vivian and Tendulkar will always be remembered for the type of cricket they played around the world.

Many other cricketers over the years have performed well such as Allan Border, Sir Garfield Sobers, Sunil Gavaskar, Doug Walters, Kapel Dev, Imran Khan, Malcolm Marshall, Rohan Kanhai, Alvin Kallicharran, Dennis Li Lee, Jeff Thompson, Ian Chapell, Greg Chapell, Lawrence Rowe, Geoff Boycott, Ven Katarragavang, Bishen Singh Bedi, Conrad Hunte, Max Walker, Brian Lara, Michael Holding and many others, but not least, the three W’s, Mr. Worrell, Mr. Weeks and Mr. Walcott.

West Indies Come Back In Doubt

The loss of Chris Gayle, Jerome Taylor and very soon Ramneresh Sarwan and possibly Shivnarine Chanderpaul would leave a squad that lacks adequate experience to compete. The opening batsman position would be left vacant.

Adrian Barath may be left without an opening partner who is credible to start the West Indies innings. With Devon Smith, Chris Gayle and Lendl Simmons failing badly in Tests, this situation puts the West Indies in a crisis with their front line batting.

The West Indies selectors ought to be very careful in their decisions about choosing certain players for Test matches and one-day internationals after this Digicel Series with India.

The West Indies Cricket Board needs to modify its business strategies and try to improve its relationship with the West Indies Players Association and its members.
