Del.icio.usThomas Solomon, multi award-winning escape artist and magician, will present his full-evening show, American Escape Artist, as the feature of the Society of American Magicians 102nd Annual Salute to Magic at El Teatro at El Museo del Barrio, 1230 Fifth Ave. at 104th Street, New York on Saturday, May 14 starting at 8:00 p.m.
Solomon’s performance alternates between dangerous escapes and baffling sleight-of-hand illusions, supported by beautiful assistants, dramatic sets and high-impact light and sound design. Solomon’s show is suspenseful, entertaining and mystifying.
Voted The World’s Greatest Escape Artist by his peers, Solomon has starred in two television specials, “Thomas Solomon, The Escape Artist” for CH4, Great Britain, and “No Jail Can Hold Me” for The History Channel. Solomon starred in two Off-Broadway shows, “Ellusions” and “Theatre of the Macabre.”
Between professional engagements, Solomon travels throughout the U.S. donating his time to perform for wounded veterans and American troops shipping out overseas. In recognition of his charitable work, Solomon has just been awarded a New York State Proclamation by Governor Andrew Cuomo. Under the sponsorship of The Fisher House, a group of wounded U.S. combat veterans will attend Solomon’s New York performance.
Solomon has performed at the White House for two presidents, each time escaping handcuffs provided by the Uniformed Secret Service. He has escaped from more than 5000 pairs of handcuffs of all types, two locked safes (one underwater) and 19 jails, including Petonville, a maximum-security prison in the UK, and Al Capone’s cell at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia.
The Salute to Magic, presented by the Society of American Magicians, Parent Assembly One, is the longest-running magic show in the U.S. Since the first performance, in 1909, nearly all the world’s greatest magicians have appeared on the Salute to Magic.
