Gayle in top 20 ICC rankings

Hard-hitting opening batsman Chris Gayle is the only Windies player in the top 20 of the ICC One-Day International rankings released recently.

The left-handed Gayle was placed 15th, dropping two places following a lackluster World Cup when he managed just 170 runs from five innings.

West Indies reached the quarter-finals of the competition before being booted out by Pakistan.

Veteran left-hander Shivnarine Chanderpaul is the only other West Indies player in the top 30 at number 21, while fellow Guyanese Ramnaresh Sarwan lies at 35th.

South Africa’s Hasim Amla remains at the top of the rankings followed by his colleague AB de Villiers.

Meanwhile, in the bowlers’ rankings, not a single West Indies player features in the top 20.
