Robert Couche Adult Center celebrates 37th anniversary

The Robert Couche Adult Center celebrated 37 years of service to seniors with their Annual Awards Dinner on Friday, April 9 at Antun’s, Queens.

This center has enrolled more than 5000 seniors, including the visually and physically handicapped. The center is always engaging seniors with a variety of activities for both men and women.

Executive Director Eleanor Kelly emphasized their program is geared towards wellness and they offer many exercise classes including dance, aerobics, tai chi and yoga as well as health classes such as Back Pain Management and Hypertension Management.

Recreational activities and educational classes include ceramics classes, art classes, piano lessons, computer lessons, bridge classes, law clinics through CUNY’s law school, Spanish classes, a pool room, knitting and crocheting. They serve 200 nutritionally balanced meals daily for only $1.00 everyday and welcomes adults age 60 and over.

Honored at the gala event were Johnnie Newsome, president of the Advisory Board, Diana Oaks, assistant director for the Senior Care Program at Queens Hospital Center, John Butler, chairman, Board of Directors, Assistant Chief James Secreto, commanding officer of Patrol Bureau South, Lady Lucille Burney, 96 years old and a former State Committee Woman of the 29th A.D., Marcel Robin, owner of the State Farm Insurance Agency on Merrick Blvd.
