Circuit Productions, Inc., the Brooklyn Public Library, PS 39K, and the Park Slope Senior Citizens Center (PSSCC) will be hosting World Beat: A Study of Diverse Cultures in NYC through Dance and Music.

On April 14, music and dance performances by Something Positive: An Afro-Caribbean Experience will display traditional song and dance from the Afro-Caribbean Diasporas. Two performances will take place from 1:05-1:50 p.m. and 2:05-2:50 p.m. at Camp Friendship, located at 339 8th St., Brooklyn. Entrance through side doors closer to 6th Ave.

The “World Beat” initiative was launched two years ago in the 39th Council District to provide skill-based learning workshops and performances to youth and seniors. The year-long series of intergenerational programs – a result of an alliance forged among the Brooklyn Public Library (BPL), P.S. 39K/The Landmark School, the PSSCC and Circuit Productions, Inc. (CPI) - brings thematic presentations of interactive music and dance to audiences comprising all grades of the elementary school and participants from PSSCC, simultaneously.

Serena Rockower, director of Bookings and Outreach at Circuit Productions said, “It is refreshing and inspiring to watch intergenerational audiences interact in a lively and diverse cultural setting. If you experience one of these World Beat programs you can feel the positive impact they have in our communities.”

Additional performances: Next performance will be on June 23, 2011. Join us for Keep the Country Dancing featuring tap, clog, and swing dancer, Pat Cannon and her trio. Please check our website for all Arts Education performances. PLEASE NOTE: Guests from outside this school district should call to reserve a seat. We cannot promise a seat will be available without a reservation. You may call us at 718.638.4878 or email us at circuit635@earthlink.net.
