Toys and gifts for Harlem Dowling kids

To help cheer on the holiday, a host of celebrities and fans traveled uptown recently for the 3rd annual Vaughn Harper Toy Drive benefitting Harlem Dowling West Side Center for Children and Family Services. Hosted by NY-1 News’ anchorwoman Cheryl Wills, the event took place at Harlem Bar BQ located on Frederick Douglass Blvd. Harper’s wife Sandra filled in for the radio legend who was slightly under the weather.

Harlem Dowling Executive Director Dorothy Worrell and her committed staff attended the festive affair to personally thank supporters, which included radio personalities Bob Lee and Debbie Jackson, and jazz great Alex Bugnon. Attending guests also included members of the Sesame Street Workshop which helped donate over 500 gifts and toys for the agency.

In 2011, Harlem Dowling-West Side Center for Children and Family Services celebrates its 175th Anniversary. To help commemorate this landmark occasion, the agency recently launched its building fund for construction of a new home office at 2135 Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Blvd. The green building will include approximately 15,000 sq. ft. of office space and an additional 45,000 sq. ft. of living space for low-income and subsidized housing.
