Gayle to play for Dolphins

Hard-hitting West Indies opener Chris Gayle will ply his trade in Durban next year when he turns out for Dolphins in South Africa’s Twenty20 Pro20 series.

The tall left-hander, who has been locked in an impasse with the West Indies Cricket board in recent month, is one of the most sought after batsman in the shortest form of the game.

Gayle said he was looking forward to the new experience in the Feb. 15 to March 30 tournament.

“South Africa will provide a new challenge and I’m sure alongside Shaun Taitt (Australian fast bowler) and under the guidance of Graham Ford we can be a success,” he said.

Gayle was outstanding during the recent Indian Premier League, scoring more than 600 runs and smashing two centuries for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

He joined the tournament late as a replacement for Australian Dirk Nannes and quickly signaled his intentions with an amazing 102 from 55 balls.

Gayle’s team lost in the finals against the Mumbai Indians in the Champions League T20 in Chennai recently. He managed to score only five runs in his team’s 108 off 20 overs. Mumbai Indian scored 139.
