Brooklyn Assemblyman Nick Perry recently bestowed the 2010 Dynamic Woman Award on 10 women for their remarkable contribution to the community.
The honorees at the gala brunch at Tropical Paradise Banquet Hall, on Utica Avenue, in Brooklyn were: Hazel Foster, a Jamaican-born retired teacher and credit analyst; Sabrina HoSang, chief operating officer, Bronx-based Royal Caribbean Bakeries; Haley Mingoes, administrator, Brooklyn-headquartered Grace Deliverance Tabernacle Church of God; Fay Moore, president of the Social Service Employees Union Local 371 and vice president of District Council 37; and Donna Phillips, parent coordinator, Brooklyn’s Meyer Levin Junior High School.
The others were: Bridget Ann Rein, assistant to the political director and City Hall lobbyist for the United Federation of Teachers; Sandra O. Thompson, associate staff analyst at the city’s Department of Design & Construction; Yvette Wilds, assistant principal, Abe Stark Elementary School (PS 346), Brooklyn; Jacqueline Williams, of Jamaican roots, co-founder of State & Broadway, Inc., a government relations firm; and Belizean Elaine Young, domestic violence counselor, NYC Human Resource Administration.
“I am sure we will all agree that every woman here today is dynamic in some ways,” said Jamaican-born Perry, the State Assembly’s assistant majority leader.
“But, today, you have joined us in making this day very special; and, of course, also very memorable for our 2010 Dynamic Women honorees.
“Our deserving awardees are being recognized not only for their personal achievements as Dynamic Women who set goals and reach them against challenges and obstacles in their way but also for their unselfish awareness of the need to do something to help make life better for others,” he added.
“That is the stuff that makes up the character of a Dynamic Woman, and I assure you that our honorees come with more than enough of this ingredient,” Perry continued.
Thompson thanked those who paved the way for her, stating: “I cannot be who I am without standing on the shoulders of all those people.
“If I can pull somebody up while I’m going up, that’s what counts,” she added.
Foster, 79 and 4’ 11”, agreed, declaring: “I believe everyone in this world needs some assistance. I’m thankful what I do is dynamic, making me a Dynamic Woman.”
