Del.icio.usTwo of Jamaica’s international landing ports are named in tribute to politicians who served the country after the nation attained independence in 1962.
The Norman Washington Manley Airport in Kingston was first to bear the name of a major landing strip and was named for the premiere leader. The second city of Montego Bay, which provides international tourists easier access to resorts is named Donald Sangster International Airport in tribute to a prime minitser of the same name.
This month, Jamaica will open its third international airport. Named for the author of the James Bond novels, the Ian Fleming International Airport is located five miles from Ocho Rios. Formerly known as the Boscobel Airstrip, the facility has been refurbished and expanded to facilitate the arrival of private international aircraft as large as the Dash-8.
“Jamaica continues to add new tourism infrastructure and facilities to make visiting the destination more convenient and pleasurable,” Jamaica’s Director of Tourism John Lynch said. “Opening a third international airport allows travelers arriving by private aircraft to enjoy a facility with less air traffic and closer proximity to popular resort areas on the eastern part of the island, such as Ocho Rios and Port Antonio.”
The Ian Fleming International Airport will allow for easy, efficient and timely processing of small aircraft and passengers. Features of the facility include a passenger lounge, pilot briefing room, customs and immigration clearance, and other specialized services for private flights.

When will it be open for commercial airlines? Public passenger would benefit as well. I would love to go to Ocho Rio's but the drive it was stops me. If I could fly, I would have been there multiple time already.
