Monroe & Per Scholas: A perfect match

Monroe College and Per Scholas, two Bronx institutions that have made their reputations in supporting the educational, developmental, and technical needs of the borough have signed an agreement that will enhance opportunities in education and, ultimately, careers.

The partnership provides a pathway for graduates of the Per Scholas Institute for Technology Computer Training Course, a program that prepares students to write the A+ certification examination, to receive nine college credits from Monroe and continue their education in the college’s School of Information Technology.

“These are the kinds of partnerships that are win, win, win for everyone involved,” said a jubilant Janice Girardi, dean of the School of IT. “Per Scholas grads who already have received quality technical training can now use what they know to move forward that much more quickly with a college degree.”

For Linda Quinones-Lopez, the vice president of Education & Training at Per Scholas, it is particularly exciting when two institutions with similar values pool their resources.

“Per Scholas is delighted to partner with Monroe College who shares our values and commitment to providing quality education,” she said. “We look forward to a long and fruitful partnership that will benefit our graduates and set them on the road to a successful career path.”

When Per Scholas students get to Monroe, they will already have A+ certification, which means they are qualified as hardware technicians. Then at Monroe they can continue their education and quest for additional certifications though the Monroe IT associate and bachelor’s degree programs.
