Del.icio.usWest Indies Women cricketers won the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Championship when they recently beat Sir Lanka in South Africa.
They produced back-to-back performances, crushing the Netherlands by 99 runs in their final group stage before trouncing Sri Lanka by eight wickets in a low-scoring match at North University Ground to win the tournament.
The success for the Caribbean side came after they missed out in the one-day international segment in which they finished second to South Africa.
Chasing 84 for victory, prolific teenage allrounder Deandra Dottin stroked 39 from 22 balls to propel her side for 85 for two in 10.4 overs.
Dottin, who was also in good form hammered five fours and two sixes and a stand of 44 off 29 balls with opener Juliana Nero.
The result atoned for the West Indies Women’s only loss in the One-Day International phase of the competition, which allowed the host to play unbeaten.
