Alvin Ridkes Known to his many friends as “Steady Eddie”, passed away on Sunday, May 24. He was 87 years old. Steady Eddie, poet and masseuse, is especially remembered by his many friends around the globe for his keen sense of humor, his fondness for conversing with strangers in cafes and in the streets of Oakland and Berkeley, his appreciation of quality cannabis, and above all is warm humanity and caring heart. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Steady Eddie was active in the Beatnik scene in Greenwich Village in the 1950s. In the 1970s he moved to the East Bay where he lived out the remainder of his life. He is survived by his sister Sally Goldman and is remembered by his many friends around the world whose lives he profoundly touched with his warmth, humor and compassion.
